I have been known to be somewhat opinionated on the topic of web browsers. When it comes to functionality, that is really dependent on individual browsing habits and needs. What really gets me going is security and the accessibility of the security settings the browser offers. This is a benchmark I often use. In particular, I am looking at this from the perspective of the less informed user. Those that are not too tech savvy either don't know they have choices or struggle to find where that information lies. Each browser has it's own settings and everything is so layered and minimal, the clues can be hard to find.
This is an introduction to a series of posts offering insight into how browsers work and how to change the settings to be more secure.
If you are looking for tutorials on specific browsers, go to my favourite learning site, GCFLearnfree.org. Go to the Internet Basics page for tutorials on the three most popular PC based web browsers, Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer.
For Mac users, visit the Apple Mac Apps Support for information on how to use Safari on your Mac computer or iOS device.
